Organizations are welcome to book this course for one or more cohorts of 4-6 participants whose roles involve supporting others' learning and development on the job (trainers, instructors, coaches, managers, team leads, etc.). Multiple cohorts can be accommodated simultaneously, combining small-group instructional practice with powerful learning and development engagements across multiple small groups.
Course participants immerse in an active exploration of learning and teaching in formats relevant to their practice, ranging from the more formal classroom instruction/training to less formal on-the-job practice support, whether in person, online (synchronous and/or asynchronous), hybrid, etc.
As part of a small group, participants in the Instructional Skills Workshop apply sound design principles to planning lessons, they practice teaching (delivering) with intention, and share perspectives on approaches and impact. This course offers a practical and playful approach to finding one's teaching and support styles, and discovering ways to continue refining and advancing these.
Over the course of 3-4 sessions totalling 24 hours and accommodating everyone's schedules, participants in the ISW engage in setting intentions, designing and implementing short classes (instructional practice), and reflection. The opportunities to practice teaching in a small peer group takes place in 'live' Zoom sessions in which participants take turns facilitating learning in short lessons, and sharing perspectives and feedback.
Scheduling these 'live' sessions a few days apart supports participants in reflecting on each teaching practice, considering peers feedback, and thoughtfully planning and preparing for their next teaching practice.
By engaging educators with a range of experiences in learning together, this course goes beyond the foundational principles of effective teaching (instructing, training, facilitating learning). Participants tend to find that the course brings them inspiration and sparks their curiosity, promoting joy in continuing to explore, reflect, and evolve their practice as leaders in their area of work over the course of their careers.
Participants can expect to:
-
Effect a culture of inclusion, curiosity, and learning in professional practice;
-
Create a positive, respectful, supportive environment for all learners;
-
